I worked with Barry at Pymble and Hornsby. He was also a Weapons Instructor mainly working with me and others at the underground range in the old Smith and Campbell Street building in Surrey Hills. My wife and myself also lived in the same suburb and we frequently had a meal together with Barry and his family. I remember Barry being great with his sons, always took time to introduce them to strangers and talk with them. Always will be i my memory as one of the real good blokes. Known universally as the Black Duck. Peter Allott

Just came across this guy with the same name as me….wow… I don’t know if we have the same bloodline or not but curious about his life. He sounds like he was a very professional at what he did and everyone liked him alot….anyway…this was an eyeopener.

  • He actually gave me a hat to keep once, he was connected to my family somehow, his name popped into my head and i noticed this, I used to call him “uncle Barry” and he knew my grandparents and whole family quite well, I’ll do some asking around and see if they have anything to add, but he was a great person, very distinct memories of him, all good.

  • Barry is in the family tree, that I’m doing at the mo. I didn’t know, (only found out last week), that he was a Police Officer.

Barry is a 5th great grandson of the Hoppings, which originated in Middlesex, England from 1766.

I have added a photo of him, to our family tree. And the book, that I am currently doing on the Hoppings.

Barry is my 6th cousin. RIP Barry .

From your Hopping cousins, in NZ, AU, UK, US, Canada, Dubai, Germany, and France.

    • Hi Paul,
I have just added a little bit more information to Barry’s Memorial Post as to where his grave is.
Would it be possible for you to send a copy of that photo for inclusion on his Memorial page please?

      • It’s the photo here Cal. This photo is also on Ancestry. But it’s smaller. I didn’t know him personally, I’m not in Australia. I’m a NZ Hopping descendant.

But you can still see it in the book / PDF file that I create on the Hoppings.

The PDF file is 20 MB compressed, but it’s over 1500 pages with past and present Hoppings with pictures.

And I’ve gone back to 1766. There is also a descendants page in FB with 135 descendants in it. They’re from US, UK, NZ AU, Germany, and Dubai so far.

This PDF file / book is in this group. I update it, then upload it to the descendants in this group. The tree is also synced to Ancestry.

I don’t have Barry’s kids in the tree yet, but I will add them now.

If you know where they are, please let them know. They can get me on FB under this name (my profile pic is a pic, with my sister). I’ll invite them to the group to meet their cousins

        • I have changed the pic I had, to the pic that’s here.

The one here is clearer. The one I had was blurry / out of focus.
