About 18 months ago, Jo started suffering from pains in her stomach that wouldn’t go away. Testing took place and it was discovered that Jo had bowel cancer that had already spread to her liver. Jo was found to have numerous lesions on her bowel and her liver was riddled with lesions.
Jo has been having extensive chemotherapy since this time and sadly, a recent scan has shown that her tumours have grown and the cancer has also spread to her lungs. Jo is not eligible for liver surgery, bowel surgery, or any type of transplant. It appears as though Jo’s body is no longer responding to chemotherapy. Jo has been informed that she is eligible to trial a brand new immunotherapy drug that has just been brought over from the USA. Unfortunately, this drug is not yet on our PBS and will cost $1900 per fortnight, capped at $27,000.
Regardless of this trial, Jo has been informed that her condition is completely incurable, and that the aim of any trial or medication from this point onwards is to solely prolong her life. About 18 months ago, Jo was given an estimated 3 years life expectancy. Jo has only just turned 40.
Jo is a mother of two beautiful beautiful boys ( aged 8 and 5 ), a wife to a supportive, loving husband and a friend to so many people. She has served the NSW state as a dedicated police officer and Detective over her 20-year policing career. Her shock diagnosis and cancer treatment has taken an enormous toll on her and her family. Despite all of this, Jo has remained so infectiously positive and upbeat which has been an inspiration to us all.
We recently held a fundraising event to raise money for Jo and her family to help make special memories for them. We are now trying to continue our fundraising efforts to raise enough money to cover her ongoing treatment and ease the financial pressure on Jo and her family. We would love Jo to spend as much precious, quality time with her boys as she can.
Nothing further, than what is recorded above, is known about this person at the time of publication and further information and photos would be appreciated.

A seamless ability to switch from rugby league commentating to boxing in the blink of an eye is how long-time friend Peter Saville will remember Robert Keith Murray.
The man affectionately known as ‘Chuck’ passed away on February 25, following a sudden battle with bowel cancer.
Mr Saville reflected on his favourite moments as producer alongside Chuck, when they covered the Hastings League, spanning almost three decades.
“His ability to switch between rugby league and boxing commentary was probably one of his best assets,” Saville said.
It was in reference to a match many years ago which saw an all-in-brawl erupt following a send-off.
Saville and Chuck first met in 1993, when Chuck joined the radio station after moving from Sydney.
“I originally knew him as Robert when he first turned up and halfway through that year he decided to change his name to Bob,” he said.
“When that didn’t work he went back to his old police nickname which he got at a pub in Sydney. You can imagine why he was called Chuck if he got his nickname from a pub in Sydney.”
The 65-year-old was a common sight at various Hastings League grounds from South West Rocks to Smithtown over the years before his health deteriorated.
Whether it was Group 2, Group 3, Hastings League, motocross or even schoolboy rugby league, the commentary was of a high standard.
The Port Macquarie Sharks’ reserve grade team bus even performed a u-turn on the Pacific Highway barely 10 minutes into their trip home back in the early ’90s, after they turned the radio on and heard of their first grade team’s grand final comeback.
Chuck was always committed to the cause and always answered the call – especially when the radio station was in trouble in early 2000.
“You can imagine why he was called Chuck if he got his nickname from a pub in Sydney.”
But Mr Saville will always fondly remember their regular climbs up onto the roof of Lank Bain Sporting Complex, even if it made those underneath nervous.
“Chuck was always wearing stubby shorts when he climbed up the ladder and God knows why,” he said.
“You’d be sitting in the stand and watch the roof bow as he walked across the gang plank and then sit and broadcast the game. Those were the days.”
Hastings League president Geoff Connor also paid tribute to Chuck and how he had helped promote rugby league over the years.
“He was good for people sitting at home who didn’t want to go because of wet weather or were too old or whatever,” he said.
“Chuck certainly promoted the game; he made himself a big part of the competition, but his biggest contribution was probably for people who moved away. They could still tune in and listen to their favourite team of a weekend.”
Clubs are encouraged to donate jumpers or shirts to go on the coffin during the service.
The jumpers can be dropped at Midcoast Funerals in Port Macquarie or Wauchope marked “attention Pieta Law” before Tuesday (March 8) mid-afternoon.
His funeral service will be held at the Anglican Church in Laurieton at 12.30pm on March 9.
SYDNEY: Mr Luciano Santos., who is alleged to have escaped from Darlinghurst police station almost two months ago, had used a loaded pistol to prevent his arrest, Waverley Petty Sessions was told yesterday.
Mr Santos, 22, appeared before Mr Forbes, SM. handcuffed to two uniformed policemen. Other police guarded the exits.
Mr Santos, unemployed, of no fixed address, was charged with escaping from the station on February 17.
He also was charged with assaulting Constables Wayne Innes ( # 18948? ), Sidney Davis( 19881? or 20580? ) and Robert Keith Murray in the execution of their duty, and with assaulting Constable Murray causing him actual bodily harm.
He also was charged with using a loaded firearm to avoid arrest, using a .38 calibre pistol and possessing a shortened firearm at Centennial Park on April 8.
Bail was not applied for.
When he escaped in February, Mr Santos was on remand on charges of armed robbery.
Mr Forbes adjourned the matters to April 28 for mention.
SYDNEY: A police sergeant told Balmain Court yesterday that he was hit in the head during a shoot-out with a man he described as “very dangerous”.
Detective Sergeant Graham Frazer ( # 9982 ), of the Armed Hold-up Squad, said the man, Mr Luciano Santos, had done “a couple of frightful things” and was serving a “very long term of imprisonment”.
Mr Santos is appearing before Mr Norton, SM, charged with shooting to avoid lawful apprehension at Centennial Park on April 8, using a .38 calibre revolver without a licence and possessing a shortened firearm.
He has not entered any pleas.
Sergeant Frazer said he and other detectives had been in the Centennial Park area on April 8 with the aim of recapturing Mr Santos.
About 9.30pm he was driving with two other detectives towards Cook Road, at Centennial Park, when he saw a large van which he had been told was carrying Mr Santos and another man, Mr Michael Johnson, who was now dead.
The van was being followed by a number of other police cars.
The van went through a red light and he saw Mr Santos, in the driver’s seat, pointing a handgun at police.
Sergeant Frazer said he was armed with a departmental-issue shotgun which he put out of the police car window and fired one shot at the van.
A detective in the back of the car he was in also fired a shot, but Mr Santos kept driving.
Sergeant Frazer said he fired another shot which shattered the window of the van and bought it to a halt.
“I immediately alighted and saw Mr Santos leaning from the window of the van holding a handgun,” he said. “I saw it was pointing at me.”
A shot was fired from the weapon. “I commenced to run towards the kerb. As I was running I was struck in the left side of the head by a projectile.
“The next thing I recall is being placed in the rear of my police car and later being taken to St Vincent’s Hospital by ambulance.”
At about 2am the next day he underwent surgery.
He told the court Mr Santos was wanted for what he would term “a very serious escape” from the cells at the District Court, Darlinghurst. He had escaped with a man named Mr Ian Steele.
The court was told Mr Steele was shot by police in Victoria on the same day Mr Santos was arrested.
Sergeant Frazer told the court that at the time of his escape Mr Santos had been serving sentences for kidnapping and armed hold-up.
He said police had been told that on April 8 Mr Santos and other people planned to hold up a TAB agency in the Redfern or Surry Hills area.
Before proceedings against Mr Santos began on Monday, the police prosecutor, Sergeant Mal Spence, told the court that much of the evidence would also be given at the inquest on a man named Mr Johnson, who was shot dead by police.
SYDNEY: Two prisoners had sawn through a steel bar and climbed down a ladder made of linen before prison officers prevented their escape at Sydney’s Long Bay jail yesterday, a NSW Corrective Services Commission spokesman said.
The prisoners, Mr Luciano Santos and Mr Cyril Gidley, were apprehended shortly after 4am.
Mr Santos is serving a 14-year sentence for armed robbery and Mr Gidley is serving a life sentence for murder.
Patrolling officers had seen Mr Santos before he reached the ground, and apprehended him as he hid behind a pile of bricks in the prison yard.
Mr Gidley was still in the cell when Mr Santos was caught.
The commission spokesman said the escape was never likely to succeed as the men had still to cross the main prison wall.
Nothing further, than what is recorded above, is known about this person at the time of publication and further information and photos would be appreciated.

Our school leaders, together with Taylor Stirton recently participated in the Central Coast Relay for Life at Mingara.
These students combined to walk for approx 18 hours to help raise funds for cancer research. They secured sponsorship and took on this enormous endeavour under the Toukley Public School name.
Betty and Dallas Stirton, parents of school captain Zac supported the students all the way through this adventure, including walking with them throughout the night.
Mr Stirton provided a football boot signed by legend Andrew (Joey) Johns to raffle toward this wonderful cause.
All who participated were very tired after the event, however they found the whole experience very rewarding.
I would like to acknowledge the following amazing students who as a collective group participated in the Central Coast Relay For Life at Mingara on the weekend.

Newtown police officer’s 34 day cycle challenge for colleague
Joanna Panagopoulos, Inner West Courier
When Senior Constable Anthony New offered to cycle from Perth to Sydney to raise money for his colleague Pam Sutton, she initially refused.
But after thinking about the uncertainty she faced with her latest cancer prognosis, she finally agreed.
Ms Sutton has provided administrative support to the officers at Newtown Police Station for 11 years. She has taken most of her sick leave and eaten up much of her super.
“It’ll help me catch up on medical bills … I don’t know what will happen (in the future). It’s a bit of a backup,” she said.
Senior Constable New will set off from South Mole Lighthouse in Fremantle and finish the 4000km journey at the Sydney Opera House 34 days later.
He hopes to raise at least $10,000 when he ‘pedals for pam’.
“It was just out of the blue. He said, ‘I will be riding from Perth to Sydney and I’d like to be able to support you and whatever is going to happen in the future’,” Ms Sutton said.
“It’s incredible that he would do that for someone else.”
“(At Newtown police station) we all get along really well … we’re good friends and we support each other,” she said.
Ms Sutton’s battle with cancer has been long and gruelling.
Since she was diagnosed with stage three bowel cancer in 2014, she has had part of her bowel, liver and lung removed, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and brachytherapy.
The cancer has now spread to her lymph nodes.
“The prognosis is not going to go away. It’s just going to be there. I have a win, I think I’ve beaten it, and then it says ‘hey you haven’t beaten me’ … it’s an ongoing battle between me and the disease and I’m going to win,” she said.
Ms Sutton has grandchildren and three kids in their 30s and 40s, which keep her going.
But work has also been a saving grace, so it’s pressing that she is receiving so much support from her colleagues.
“Coming to work helps. If I didn’t come to work, I think it would be very easy to give into the fatigue. (It’s good) coming to work and having people around me who are so positive. Just to say, ‘How you going?’ or “I’ll carry that for you’,” Ms Sutton said.
Senior Constable New started working at Newtown Police Station around the time Ms Sutton was first diagnosed with cancer.
“She’s just a really positive lady and wants to help out the officers. She’s worked in the station and helped out with counter inquires, she’s good with the public … she’s just a great lady,” Senior Constable New said.
“It makes the ride more important for me … I can ride for somebody and help a work colleague.”
Senior Constable New was a decathlete, a state champion in track and field, in the army reserves, but he said this solo bike ride across Australia is another beast.
“This is the hardest thing I will do but it’s nothing compared to what Pam will go through … if I suffer a little bit of pain out on the road.”
During the month of September, Senior Constable Anthony New will challenge himself to ride 4000km from Perth to Sydney, all while raising funds in support of his colleague Pam, who is living with cancer. Anthony will set off from South Mole Lighthouse, Fremantle (WA) and aims to finish 30 days later at the Sydney Opera House.
Keep in touch with Anthony throughout his journey via Facebook and Instagram @thinbluedot .
Here is Pam’s story:
Pam Sutton is a much loved and valued member with the Inner West Police Area Command. Pam has worked for NSW Police for 11 years as a General Administrative Support Officer.
Pam was diagnosed with Stage 3 Bowel Cancer in January 2014. She underwent surgery and began her first round of chemotherapy.
Since being diagnosed, Pam has continued to fight a courageous battle. Pam has endured many rounds of chemotherapy over the years as the cancer was found to have spread to different parts of her body. After Doctors detected cancer in the liver, Pam underwent another operation to have part of her liver removed followed by more chemotherapy.
Further tests revealed the cancer had spread to one of Pam’s lungs resulting in another operation to remove the tumour from the lung. Another gruelling round of chemotherapy followed. Further tests showed the cancer had spread to lymph node near the heart. Pam underwent radiotherapy and a particularly intense round of chemotherapy. The chemotherapy treatment could not continue as Pam’s immune system became too weak for further treatment. As a result, the chemotherapy treatment was stopped to allow Pam’s immunity to improve. The treatment had fortunately shrunk the size of the tumour, however, when the treatment ceased the tumour grew back.
Recent tests have shown the cancer has spread to the bladder and another lymph node. Pam has recently started another round of chemotherapy.
Pam has battled this illness for the past five and a half years, and to the amazement of her peers has taken minimal leave during treatment and recovery. She has continued to show up to work despite everything she has endured and even in times of feeling very unwell and weak due to the chemotherapy treatment. Her dedication, strength and her positive attitude are a wonder to all that cross her path.
Pam’s medical expenses have been ongoing and as anyone could image a huge burden to her. We’d like to ask anyone who would like to contribute to this worthy cause, to make a donation.

Pam, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this tough time! But I know you will battle through!
To all those who have been following Senior Constable Anthony New’s #Pedal4Pam journey, we have some sad news.
It is with a very heavy heart that our Inner West Police Area Command family said goodbye to Pam Sutton on Sunday 29 September 2019.
Pam had bravely battled cancer for five and a half years and will always be remembered as the kind-hearted, vibrant soul that she was.
For all those who have donated to #Pedal4Pam and NSW Police Legacy, we thank you. The money will be donated to Pam’s family.
Anthony – Thin blue dot – is currently over half way through his 4000km bike ride across Australia and we know Pam would be extremely proud of his efforts.

Government Gazette of the State of New South Wales (Sydney, NSW : 1901 – 2001), Friday 13 July 1990 (No.88), page 6660

Peter IRBY, was a serving member of the NSW Police Force between 03/05/2002 and the 02/02/2012 where he attained the rank of Senior Constable. Peter performed general duties at Marrickville, Transit Police and Tuggerah Lakes Local Area Command before being stationed at Richmond Local Area Command between 09/09/2007 and the 02/02/2012 where he performed duties at Nimbin Police Station.
Peter passed away in hospital on the 31/10/2018 after a lengthy but valiant fight with cancer. Peter was only 40 years old and had been a proud Police officer. He leaves behind his wife, Diona, their three young children, Henry, Darcy & Milah.
One of Peter’s last wishes was for Diona and the children to go to Disneyland. This is a very small wish for a man who dedicated himself to serving the people of NSW. It is hoped that we can raise some funds to assist Diona and their children at this difficult time.
Today we have the melancholy honour of launching the Peter Irby Fundraiser. Senior Constable Peter Irby served in the NSW Police Force for ten years. At the age of just 40 he lost his lengthy battle with cancer, leaving behind his wife and three young children. One of his final wishes was for his family to go to Disneyland in California, and this fundraiser seeks to help with that. Please help if you can, and please help spread the word: http://bit.ly/peterirby
[divider_dotted]
Peter attended Mullumbimby High School between 1990 – 1996 to Year 12.
In September 2014 he did the Introduction to Return to Work Co-ordinator Course.
In April 2015 he did the Cert IV training and Assessment for Diploma of work, health and safety.
In March 2015 he was a Student at the Southern Cross University.

‘PETE IRBY – WHAT A TOP BLOKE ‘– If I had a dollar for every time I heard that comment made!! For all of us who love and adore him, Pete is that cheerful, loyal, fun loving guy who can always put a smile on your face with his wicked sense of humour!
Pete and his partner in crime Diona, have been married for over 12 years. Together they are raising the most wonderful little humans, Henry (11), Darcy (9) and Milah (7). Pete is the most amazing, devoted and loving father.
Pete has devoted his professional life to making a difference in the community and proudly served as a police officer attached to Marrickville LAC, Tuggerah Lakes LAC and Richmond LAC. It is a challenging environment and as his former Supervisor Mark said, “I was honoured to be his supervisor for several years of his service”. Pete is an outgoing and positive person with a strong desire to perform any role to the best of his ability. His perfectionist nature, empathy and willingness to help others selflessly are character traits we all admire in him. In keeping with Pete’s desire to help out his community, he is currently studying to be a nurse.
DIAGNOSIS
On Wednesday 7th of March 2018, Diona and Pete were given the heartbreaking news Pete was diagnosed with Bowel Cancer. When he was diagnosed, Pete was also informed that the cancer had spread through to his Liver. Since then a PET scan has identified that the cancer has shown up in his colon as well. When cancer cells break away from the primary tumour in the bowel, they can travel around in the blood stream or in lymph fluid. There is a common pattern in the way that bowel cancer spreads in the body. The name given to this kind of bowel cancer is ‘metastatic’ and each new area of growth away from the primary tumour is known as a ‘metastasis’
Pete has endured numerous tests and procedures over the past week to ascertain what the best course of action is, along with his team of specialists. Pete will start chemo next week.
PURPOSE OF THIS PAGE
This go fund me page has been created to help Pete and Dee pay the mounting Medical bills that will come their way. After helping so many people professionally and personally it is fitting his colleagues, friends and community ‘have his back’ in this time of need.
This diagnosis has rocked all of Pete’s friends and family to our core. As Pete’s mate Fyshy said, “Last Thursday morning I woke to the news that my best mate had this hideous disease, absolutely broke my heart. Pete Irby is not my best mate he is my brother that’s how close we are, we were inseparable growing up, Pete’s family give us the nickname Fysh n Chips.
This is going to be a very long and tough journey for Pete and his beautiful family, and I hope we can help them all as much as we possibly can. There are so many things I can say about Pete, but the biggest thing is he needs each and everyone’s support in this shit time. “
Pete is determined to beat this hideous disease. Let’s get behind Pete and his family and try to ease some of the financial pressure for them.
Any contribution you can make is greatly appreciated. Please keep Pete and his family in your thoughts as he fights this insidious disease.

ROBERT is NOT mentioned on the Police Wall of Remembrance *NEED MORE INFO
FURTHER INFORMATION IS NEEDED ABOUT THIS PERSON, THEIR LIFE, THEIR CAREER AND THEIR DEATH.
Ajax BoltThere was a Robert W White, born, 9/10/1940, registered no 12534, member of class 110, sworn in at Redfern on 3/4/1967. He joined the Police band very early in his career and was a trumpet player, he apparently worked in the corrective services band at some time. Could be the same person, hope this helps in some way.
Cameron Bell Yes that’s him. He played the cornet amongst others. He also played in the Police Bands Dance Band where only a select few top musicians would play. He was an excellent musician and I always remember the jokes he used to tell.
Cameron BellJust trying to remember the year, but Mike Butcher took over conducting the band in 1972 and it was just after that the band went full time which would have been 1974/75.
Before that Whitey was stationed at Petersham where I think he was when he joined. He did three periods a week teaching music at a PCYC. Whitey was at Leichhardt.
He was still with the Police band when he died of bowel cancer.
He was a funny bugger, he turned 50 and seemed to give it up. Always saying “not bad for an old bugger”. The word was if he had had periodical check ups he would still be alive today.
So to sum up he was only stationed at Petersham police station then full time band at the Police Barracks at Redfern.
Hope that helps

WHEN Senior Constable Dave Mansfield was diagnosed with bowel cancer at the start of the year, he had many colleagues willing to literally jump to his aid.
As a fundraiser for the father of three, officers from Tuggerah Lakes police are preparing to set a new Guinness Book of World Records mark for continuous jumping on a jumping castle .
The record stands at 37 hours and 14 seconds, and the group is determined to blow that time out of the water at Mingara Recreation Club, Tumbi Umbi, on May 29-31.
Such was the interest in assisting the Mansfield family, organiser Senior Constable Jay Stewart had to knock back some prospective jumpers as only eight are required.
While there is no strict training schedule planned, Sen-Constable Stewart said they had a plan of attack for their record attempt.
“We’re going to try half an hour stints,” he said.
“We were going to try an hour at a time but I don’t know if you could do it for that long.”
The group have set up a Facebook page and are seeking support from businesses in the lead-up to the event.
Sen-Constable Mansfield was speechless when his colleagues told him of their plans, although he confessed to having a laugh when he was told about the jumping castle.
“I thought it was hilarious to begin with,” he said.
“But I’ve been speechless at how much support has been generated.”
Hunter Valley Amusement Hire has donated the use of a jumping castle.

Eight officers from Tuggerah Lakes Police will begin a world record attempt for the longest marathon bouncing on a jumping castle at Mingara Recreation Club on Friday, May 29.
The attempt is to raise funds for their Tuggerah Local Area Command colleague, senior constable Dave Mansfield, who was diagnosed with bowel cancer at the start of the year.
SC Mansfield is a married man and a father of a young family, so, according to the Police Association of NSW, his “police family” is banding together to raise funds to assist the Mansfield family.
The current marathon on a jumping castle world record stands at 37 hours and 14 seconds.
“We believe we can blow that record out of the water by jumping well into Sunday,” said Ms Alison McLaughlin, spokesperson for the Police Association.
A family fun day will be held on Saturday, May 30 as part of the world record attempt including raffles, barbecue, NSW Police Dog Unit, POLAIR landing and “Dunk a Cop”.

Finally tonight, a group of Central Coast police officers has set a new world record for the longest team marathon on a jumping castle, by bouncing for 43 hours and 25 minutes.
They smashed the previous mark by more than six hours.
It was all about raising money to support fellow Tuggerah Lakes officer, David Mansfield, who was diagnosed with bowel cancer in February.
“I… I truly am speechless. How do you thank so many people? I guess you keep fighting. This is the most humbling experience I think you could ever have.”
The longest marathon on a bouncy castle by a team is 43 hr 25 min 1 sec and was achieved by Tuggerah Lakes Police (Australia) in Tumbi Umbi, New South Wales, Australia, on 29-31 May 2015.
The team consisted of Jay Stewart, Graham Smith, Steve Bancroft, Mick Erickson, Nicole Bird, Jon Paul Dinsdale, Karen Bertram, and Dave Brown. They attempted this record to raise money for a New South Wales Police officer who was diagnosed with cancer.
A quick-thinking driver and two alert off-duty police officers saved 32 foreign tourists from the smoke, flames and explosions of a burning tour bus in Sydney.
The group were travelling on the Gore Hill freeway at Artarmon about 6.30pm yesterday when the driver noticed an engine fire, prompting him to stop in a breakdown lane and quickly start evacuating his passengers.
Two off-duty police officers, Constable David Mansfield and Senior Constable Bryon Williams, happened to be travelling in a car nearby and decided to follow the bus after noticing smoke coming from its rear.
“As the bus pulled over we got out of the car,” Senior Constable Williams told reporters yesterday.
“The back of the bus was engulfed in flames and smoke.”
By the time the officers got to the front of the bus, passengers were scrambling to get off.
“Obviously there was a lot of chaos,” Senior Constable Williams said.
“Within minutes the whole bus was alight.
“There were numerous explosions … the windows on either side were blowing out with the heat.
“I thought, if we don’t get these people off there’s going to be a big fatality.”
None of the passengers were injured. The officers and the bus driver suffered smoke inhalation.
All that remains of the bus is a burnt shell.
The freeway at Artarmon was closed between Willoughby Road and Reserve Road for nearly an hour while firefighters fought the blaze, causing traffic problems.
Two off-duty police officers who had just seconds to save passengers from a burning bus on Sydney’s North Shore last night say they feared the bus would explode.
Senior Constable Bryon Williams and Constable David Mansfield were travelling behind the bus when it caught on fire while carrying 32 tourists on the Gore Hill Freeway in Artarmon about 6:00pm.
The driver pulled over and the officers only had seconds to get the passengers off before flames engulfed the bus.
Senior Constable Williams says the officers’ first concern was the passengers.
“It was out of control. Within a minute, the whole bus was nearly alight. The windows on either side of the bus were blowing out with the heat and the amount of fire and that coming from the bus,” he said.
“It was close… I actually thought this thing’s going to blow up and if we don’t get these people off, there’s going to be a big fatality.
“It was very scary from my point of view, from the point of view of the people on the bus and the poor bus driver himself.”
The fire started in the engine bay of the bus.
The southbound lanes of the freeway were closed for more than an hour, causing traffic problems.
