Motor Vehicle Accident

Ulmarra

25 October, 1947

 

On 25 October, 1947 Constable McNeil was riding a police motor cycle along the Pacific Highway, returning to Grafton from a patrol to Bushgrove. At Wyatt’s Corner, near Ulmarra, the cycle collided head-on with another vehicle and the constable was killed instantly. The driver of the car, Richard O’Donoghue, his wife and a man named Wright, all from Orara, were admitted to the Grafton Hospital suffering from glass cuts and shock. Another occupant of the car was unhurt.

 

The constable was born in 1924 and joined the New South Wales Police Force on 4 August, 1941 as a cadet. He was sworn in on 26 March, 1945. At the time of his death he was stationed at Grafton.
