About 2.40pm on 31 May, 1963 Constable Murray was riding a police motor cycle outfit in Campbelltown Road, Campbelltown. A station sedan travelling in the opposite direction crossed to the incorrect side of the roadway and collided head-on with the cycle, injuring both Constable Murray and a police prosecutor who was a passenger in the sidecar. Both were conveyed to the Liverpool District Hospital where the prosecutor was treated and allowed to leave. Unfortunately Constable Murray’s injuries were more severe and he died on 5 June, 1963.

The constable was born in 1931 and joined the New South Wales Police Force on 12 April, 1955. At the time of his death he was stationed at Bankstown.
