|MARTIN, James Ralph
24 May, 1974.
On the night of the 24 May, 1974, Constable Martin was riding a Police Special Traffic Patrol solo motor cycle in Warringah Road, Forestville. After stopping a motor cycle for a possible traffic breach, the Constable stood on the footpath speaking to the rider and pillion passenger. As they were talking, a car approached at high speed, veered off the roadway and struck both Constable Martin and the pillion passenger. Both received fatal injuries.The Constable was born in 1952 and joined the New South Wales Police Force on 14 February, 1972. At the time of his death he was stationed at Manly.
KEMP, Dallas Cyril
The Sergeant was born in 1932 and joined the New South Wales Police Force on 29 October, 1956. At the time of his death he was stationed at Mayfield.
|DEVINE, Victor Edward
14 August, 1974.
About 7.30pm on 13 August, 1974 Constable Devine was riding a Police Special Traffic Patrol solo motor cycle along the Great Western Highway, Westmead. At that time the Police Radio VKG advised of a Police Officer requiring urgent assistance in Thomas Street, Parramatta. Constable Devine responded, however as he approached the intersection of Hawkesbury Road, a panel van made a right turn in front of the Police cycle. Such was the impact of the collision that the panel van overturned, injuring the three occupants. Constable Devine suffered severe injuries and died at 1am the following morning.The Constable was born in 1950 and joined the New South Wales Police Force on 13 December, 1971. At the time of his death he was attached to the Traffic Branch.
|WARD, Ian Donald

14 November, 1974.
On 12 November, 1974 Constable Ward was serving with the Eleventh Australian Police Element in Cyprus. Whilst travelling in a Land Rover near Lefka the vehicle hit a landmine. As a result, Constable Ward was killed, and Constable 1st Class John Woolcott was seriously injured.The Constable was born in 1949 and joined the New South Wales Police Force on 12 April, 1968. At the time of his death he was stationed in Cyprus.
| LYNCH, Robert Edward
Sergeant 3rd Class
22 March, 1975.
On 22 March, 1975 Sergeant Lynch was riding a Police Highway Patrol solo motor cycle home at the completion of his shift. As he travelled along the Wakehurst Parkway he started to overtake another vehicle. The vehicle suddenly swerved to the right to avoid hitting a bandicoot, and clipped Sergeant Lynch’s cycle. The cycle left the road and collided with a post. Sergeant Lynch was thrown off the cycle, sustaining severe injuries.The Sergeant was born in 1933 and joined the New South Wales Police Force on 4 March, 1953. At the time of his death he was attached to the Highway Patrol.
|POWELL, Stephen Gerard
Detective Sergeant 1st Class
7 July, 1975.
Detective Sergeant Powell died after suffering a coronary occlusion on 7 July, 1975. At the time he was attending an Officer’s Training Course at the Police Driver Training School at St Ives.The Sergeant was born in 1925 and joined the New South Wales Police Force on 26 August, 1946. At the time of his death he was stationed at Newcastle.
|MONCUR, Terry John
2 December, 1976.
On the night of 1 December, 1976 Constable Moncur was the observer in a Police Highway Patrol vehicle engaged in a high speed pursuit in Adderton Road, Telopea. As the vehicle was negotiating a left hand in the roadway, it skidded and collided with a parked vehicle. Constable Moncur sustained severe injuries and died the following morning.The Constable was born in 1953 and joined the New South Wales Police Force on 24 September, 1974. At the time of his death he was attached to the Highway Patrol.
|EATON, Douglas Ronald
30 April, 1977.
On the night of 30 April, 1977, Senior Constable Eaton and Senior Constable Edward Gill attended a “silent” intruder alarm at the Toronto Country Club, Kilaben Bay. While they were making an external check of the premises both Police Officers were shot by offenders who had broken into the club. Senior Constable Eaton was killed instantly, and Senior Constable Gill seriously wounded. Members of the Glesic family were later arrested and imprisoned, and a large cache of weapons and explosives recovered.The Constable was born in 1940 and joined the New South Wales Police Force on 17 August, 1964. At the time of his death he was stationed at Toronto. He was posthumously awarded the Queen’s Gallantry Medal, the George Lewis Memorial Trophy, and the Peter Mitchell Award.
|THOMPSON, Alan Wayne SCORER, Raymond James
Senior Constable Senior Constable
3 May, 1977.
About 6.50pm on 3 May, 1977, both Senior Constables were returning from the Beresfield Crematorium following a funeral service for Senior Constable Eaton who had been murdered on 3o April. As they were travelling along John Renshaw Drive, near Buttai, Senior Constable swerved to avoid a horse on the road. The vehicle left the roadway and overturned several times. Senior Constable Scorer was killed instantly and Senior Constable Thompson died a short time later in the Royal Newcastle Hospital.Senior Constable Thompson was born in 1947 and joined the New South Wales Police Force on 3 April, 1967. At the time of his death he was stationed at Cessnock.
Senior Constable Scorer was born in 1945 and joined the New South Wales Police Force on 14 April, 1966. At the time of his death he was stationed at Cessnock.
|GILFEATHER, Lindsay Vincent
15 October, 1977.
About 9.30pm on 15 October, 1977, Senior Constable Gilfeather was driving a Police car behind another vehicle in Southern Cross Drive, Waterloo. Near the intersection of O’Dea Avenu, another vehicle made a right turn against the traffic lights in front of the two vehicles. Both vehicles took avasive action, skidded on the wet road, and collided with each other. The Police car then hit a telegraph pole. Senior Constable Gilfeather sustained extensive head and internal injuries and died a short time later. Constable 1st Class McKenzie was also injured, however he later recovered.The Constable was born in 1946 and joined the New South Wales Police Force on 12 December, 1966. At the time of his death he was attached to the No. 21 Special Squad, CIB.
