Region Index – Select Region
The State of New South Wales was divided into five operational policing regions
Greater Metropolitan, Inner Metropolitan, Northern, Southern and Western regions until around 2006 when restructure increased this to six regions.
Listed below are the 5 Region Commands, under each Command is the Local Area Commands (LAC), on the ‘left’ of each LAC is a link to every police station within that LAC which was valid up until around 2006.
Each region is headed by a Commander who has undergone a rigorous selection procedure. Reporting to the five Regional Commanders are 80 Local Area Commanders that have been specially selected for the type of environment that they will be managing.
All regions have very diverse communities to serve, with many specialised policing needs and each covers some very different environments, from metropolitan Sydney to rural, wilderness and isolated ‘outback’ areas.
This new management structure came into effect on 1st July, 2002 and was part of former Commissioner Ryan’s overhaul of the NSW Police Force.
