University staff teaching at Goulburn are appointed directly by the University or seconded from the NSW Police Force. There are now just under 40 University staff, including academics, police and administrative support personnel located on the Goulburn Campus. Some staff profiles have been provided by staff from the Centre for Investigative Studies and Crime Reduction.

Wayne Neumann is a Senior Lecturer in the Centre for Investigative Studies and Crime Reduction, Charles Sturt University and is based at the New South Wales Police Academy, Goulburn. Wayne has had a lengthy criminal justice and teaching career, having worked as a Probation Officer, Customs Officer and Prison Education Officer. He is a qualified teacher and has for many years taught police and other criminal justice personnel at universities, TAFE colleges and police academies, both here and overseas. Wayne spent six years as Senior Lecturer in the School of Investigation and Data Management at the New South Wales Police Academy, where his responsibilities included the development and delivery of the Management of Major Investigation Program, the Senior Investigators’ Course and the Detective Education Program. He is currently pursuing post-graduate studies in Criminology at the University of New England, and his main academic interests are detective training, the professionalisation of policing and the history of criminal investigation in Australia.

Currently Research Fellow, ARC Special Research Centre for Applied Philosophy and Public Ethics, and Associate Lecturer (Ethics) School of Policing StudiesStephen has been at Goulburn since January 1999. He came to the School of Policing Studies from Monash University in Melbourne, where he was involved in the teaching of undergraduate philosophy. Before moving to Melbourne he completed an honours degree in philosophy at Macquarie University in Sydney, where he concentrated on Applied Ethics, writing his Honours Thesis on the Northern Territory’s Euthanasia Legislation. He was a Bank Manager in a previous life.

I have been a member of the NSW Police Service, serving for 30 years, and held the rank of Acting Senior Sergeant until my transfer. I was appointed a lecturer to Charles Sturt University – School of Policing Studies, in January 1999, for four years whilst on leave from the Police Service. My operational background includes: general and plain clothes duties, field training officer, personnel and job analyst. For the last fifteen years, I have been involved in the learning and development of operational police and student police officers. Until recently I also taught in the community and vocational education sector. Currently undertaking the Doctor of Education at Deakin University, Geelong, Victoria as a distance student, exploring police teaching practice in classroom management of student emotions in high risk learning environments.
