The story of the Carinda police station is true. The police station pictured was meant to be built at Quirindi. My family came from Carinda, so I heard the story from an early age. But it was confirmed for me years later when I was speaking to a friend’s father, who had worked as an engineer at the Dept of Public Works, the department responsible for building police stations and the like.
When I mentioned the story his reaction was a somewhat embarrassed laugh and to comment “We don’t talk about that”.
